New Cyber Security Laws. You have 3 months to prepare.
New cyber-security laws which take effect on 22 February 2018 will see the introduction of mandatory reporting of data breaches in Australia. Under the new law, entities have 30 days to report any data breaches or suspected breaches to the Privacy Commissioner and affected customers. Breaches include any unauthorised access to or disclosure of any information held by your business about your clients, employees, suppliers and anyone else your business deals with. Data breaches can happen from outside, through spyware, viruses, malware, spam emails, ransomware or internally, for example, through use of weak or default passwords and breach of administrator rights.
Be prepared. Start by restricting administrator privileges, change passwords regularly and ensure your virus/spam protection is current. Talk to your IT and cyber security specialists.
Call us to better understand your cyber-security and privacy obligations. |

Meet the Integra Team: Janette Tavelli, Legal Practice Director
As one of the founding directors of Integra Legal, Janette started her legal career at Stone James (now Mallesons) It was 1981 when Rick Springfield, Soft Cell and Rick James were hitting the airways and Lady Di and Big Hair were all the rage. UWA had the only law school and 30 of the 90 student were women. CVs included age, gender and religion and there was no social media to check extra curricular activities.
In 1987, Janette moved to Robinson Cox (now Clayton Utz) then to London (Nabarro Nathanson) and back to Perth before starting a family and her own practice in 1993.
Throughout her career Janette has been fortunate to work with and learn from some inspiring mentors locally, nationally and internationally. Couple that with working with clients that are passionate about their business and innovative in enterprise and there has never been any room for boredom.
When Janette is not at Integra, you can find her travelling to visit her sons in whatever part of the world they may be working or studying, catching up with her Italian connections, trekking anywhere there is a mountain or skiing in Japan. |
